Harper May is working with an established property developer and construction contractor that has grown steadily over the past five years through a combination of direct delivery and strategic partnerships. The business operates across residential and commercial schemes in Greater London, with a healthy order book and plans to scale its in-house delivery capability. The finance function is expanding to support this growth, and they are now seeking a Management Accountant to strengthen their financial control and reporting infrastructure.
The Role Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will own the production of timely management accounts, support project profitability tracking, and help maintain robust financial controls across live developments. This role exists because the business has reached a stage where centralised financial oversight is critical to decision-making and risk management. You will work closely with site teams and the commercial function, translating operational data into clear financial narratives.
Produce monthly management accounts with clear explanations of variances against budget
Manage project-level cost reporting, WIP schedules, and margin tracking across multiple schemes
Oversee balance sheet reconciliations and maintain the general ledger to audit standard
Support cash flow forecasting and monitor working capital positions across the pipeline
Build and maintain cost code structures and reporting templates to improve consistency
Assist with subcontractor invoice validation and cost accruals
What we are looking for
AAT qualified as a minimum; ACA, ACCA, or CIMA (qualified or in study) preferred
Hands-on experience in construction, property, or a comparable project-driven environment
Proven competence with project accounting, cost tracking, and margin analysis
Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
Proficiency in Excel and accounting software; ERP experience a bonus
Methodical approach to month-end close and a genuine interest in improving processes
