Management Accountant - Part Qualified Widnes £35,000-£40,000 per annum (depends on experience) Hybrid Working ACCA/CIMA Study Support provided
Join a well-established and growing SME within the finance sector. This is an excellent opportunity for a part-qualified assistant accountant/ accountant who enjoys taking ownership, solving problems and working closely with clients. You will join a supportive business offering ACCA or CIMA study support and genuine opportunities for professional progression.
The Role
You will take ownership of accounting and reconciliation work across a varied portfolio of clients, with a particular focus on charities and not-for-profit organisations. You will critically review financial information, investigate discrepancies and take incomplete or unreconciled records through to an accurate trial balance.
You will also support the preparation of management accounts, budgets, forecasts and financial commentary, developing towards full ownership of management accounts for selected clients.
Key Responsibilities
Review and maintain accounting records for charities, limited companies and sole traders.
Take client records through to an accurate and fully reconciled trial balance.
Prepare monthly and quarterly balance sheet reconciliations.
Review bookkeeping completed by clients or junior colleagues, correcting errors where required.
Post and review accruals, prepayments, depreciation, deferred income and other accounting adjustments.
Investigate unusual balances, transactions and movements.
Assist with the preparation of monthly and quarterly management accounts.
Prepare supporting schedules covering income, expenditure, payroll, debtors, creditors and balance sheet movements.
Review actual performance against budget and identify significant variances.
Support the preparation of management accounts commentary and financial summaries.
Maintain restricted, unrestricted and designated fund accounting records.
Reconcile grant income, deferred income and restricted fund balances.
Assist with charity reporting, funder returns and year-end audit requirements.
Prepare VAT return workings and assist with partial exemption calculations where applicable.
Produce accurate reports using accounting systems and Excel.
Support the preparation of year-end files for external accountants, auditors and independent examiners.
Build positive client relationships and explain financial information clearly.
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls and reporting.
Support and provide guidance to junior members of the team.
Key Requirements
Currently studying towards ACCA or CIMA, or is qualified by experience
Previous experience within an accountancy practice or similar multi-client environment.
Experience preparing accounting records through to trial balance.
Strong practical balance sheet reconciliation experience.
A sound understanding of accruals, prepayments, depreciation, deferred income and control accounts.
Experience identifying and correcting bookkeeping or accounting errors.
Confident using accounting software with strong Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookup formulas.
The ability to manage several clients and competing deadlines.
Excellent attention to detail and a proactive, methodical approach.
Confidence working independently, investigating problems and challenging information where necessary.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Previous charity or not-for-profit accounting experience would be a significant advantage, particularly knowledge of restricted and unrestricted funds, grant income, deferred income and Charities SORP.
Candidates without extensive charity experience may also be considered where they have strong technical accounting skills and a genuine interest in developing within this specialist area.
