Management Accountant

About the Business

A fantastic opportunity to join a large, well-established services business based in Erdington as a Management Accountant. With the business modernising its finance function, this role offers real ownership of the management accounts alongside the chance to shape and improve processes as the team evolves. You’ll be working under a supportive manager who is keen to help you develop professionally as the business continues to grow.

Main Duties

As a Management Accountant, your main duties include

Taking full ownership of the monthly management accounts, delivering accurate figures within tight reporting deadlines

Building the period-end supporting schedules, reconciliations and analysis that underpin the monthly close

Turning financial results into clear, meaningful commentary that helps the business understand its performance

Getting to the root of variances and unexpected movements, liaising with teams across the wider business to explain them

Keeping tight control of balance sheet accounts and ensuring every balance is fully supported

Helping to shape and enhance management information as the reporting needs of the business change

Delivering ad hoc analysis to support both the finance team and wider stakeholders

Managing the fixed asset register and all related accounting entries

Overseeing company credit card and staff expense processing, making sure controls are robust and claims are handled promptly

Managing utility billing and providing financial input when contracts come up for renewal

Completing government statistical returns and other required statutory submissions

Supporting the VAT return process as needed

Acting as a point of support during the external audit, preparing schedules, providing evidence and handling auditor queries

Spotting opportunities to simplify processes, strengthen controls and make better use of systems and data

The role is based in Erdington, within a finance function that is going through an exciting period of modernisation. This is a role that will continue to evolve, giving you exposure to a broad range of finance processes and the opportunity to grow your responsibilities over time. You’ll be backed by a supportive manager who genuinely invests in the development of their team.

What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate will have

Demonstrable experience owning end-to-end management accounts is essential

Experience completing month-end across multiple entities is strongly desired

ACCA/CIMA qualified or currently studying towards a qualification

Strong Excel skills

Solid balance sheet reconciliation and financial control experience

A hands-on, proactive approach with a real interest in improving processes

Confidence communicating with both finance and non-finance colleagues

Knowledge of Pegasus Opera is beneficial but not essential
