Finance Manager, Harrogate

Salary: c£50,000

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Working pattern: Office-based, with the possibility of 1 day working from home after probation.

We are working exclusively with our client, an established and successful owner-managed business, to recruit an experienced Finance Manager.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an award-winning, professional and friendly business that continues to grow. The current Finance Manager is planning to retire in early summer 2027 following a long and successful career with the company. To ensure a comprehensive handover, our client is ideally looking to appoint their new Finance Manager in January 2027, an earlier start date may be considered if required.

This is a standalone, hands-on finance role, ideal for an experienced Management Accountant or Finance Manager who enjoys taking ownership of the full finance function and working closely with senior management.

Working alongside the Managing Director and supported by external accountants and payroll advisers, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day finance operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial information while providing meaningful financial insight to support business decisions.

The Role

As Finance Manager, you will have responsibility for the company's financial operations, including:

Producing cash flow forecasts and providing financial insight to support business decision-making.

Preparing, managing and monitoring budgets, including variance reporting.

Maintaining accurate financial records, reconciliations, accruals and prepayments.

Ensuring Xero is fully up to date and providing accurate information to external accountants for monthly reporting.

Producing debtor reports and cash flow projections.

Maintaining appropriate financial controls and supporting VAT, tax and statutory reporting requirements.

Monitoring project fees, work in progress, invoicing, costs and profitability.

Managing invoicing and credit control processes.

Overseeing the relationship with external payroll providers and accountants.

Ensuring salaries and supplier invoices are processed accurately and paid on time.

Working closely with Directors, managers, external accountants and payroll advisers.

Communicating financial information clearly and providing commercial insight across the business.

About You

We are looking for an experienced finance professional who is comfortable working independently and taking ownership of a standalone finance function.

You will ideally have

ACCA, ACA or CIMA qualification, although candidates who are qualified by experience will also be considered.

Significant experience in a Finance Manager or Management Accountant role, ideally in a standalone position.

Experience independently managing a finance function, including budgeting, forecasting, invoicing, credit control and financial reporting.

Strong commercial awareness and confidence working with senior stakeholders.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across the business.

Advanced Excel skills – essential.

Xero experience is desirable, although training can be provided.

The ability to prioritise workloads, work independently and provide clear, commercially focused financial insight.
