THE ORGANISATION

Our client is an established and growing business with a strong reputation in its sector. They are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join their finance team on a 12-month maternity cover contract. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a collaborative environment where you'll gain exposure to a broad range of finance activities while supporting the day-to-day operations of a busy finance function.

THE ROLE

The Assistant Accountant will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the finance department, supporting financial reporting, transactional processing, and stakeholder management across the business.

Responsibilities will include

Processing supplier invoices accurately and in a timely manner.

Raising and processing customer invoices.

Completing daily and monthly bank reconciliations.

Maintaining accurate financial records and supporting documentation.

Preparing and updating financial reports, including aged debtors, aged creditors and cashflow reports.

Working closely with operational teams to ensure customer and supplier billing is accurate and completed on time.

Managing finance-related queries from customers and suppliers and building strong working relationships.

Assisting with credit control activities and debtor management.

Supporting month-end processes and reconciliations.

Maintaining organised finance records and filing systems.

Providing administrative support to the wider finance team.

Assisting with process improvements and strengthening financial controls.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

Previous experience within an Assistant Accountant, Accounts Assistant or similar finance role.

Experience using Sage accounting software.

Strong Excel skills and confidence managing financial data.

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.

Confident communicator with the ability to work effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.

Comfortable working independently as well as part of a team.

Desirable

AAT qualified or working towards an accounting qualification.

Previous credit control experience.

Experience supporting month-end accounting processes.

Background within a fast-paced or project-led environment.
