Assistant Accountant

Hays Accountancy & Finance are recruiting for a Part-Time Assistant Accountant to join an established finance team on a temporary to permanent basis.This is a varied role offering a mix of transactional finance and month-end accounting responsibilities. Working as part of a job-share arrangement, you'll play a key role in supporting the smooth running of the finance function.

Hours: 22.5 hours per week

The preferred working pattern is Wednesday, Thursday and either Monday or Friday. However, alternative part-time working arrangements may be considered for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

Cashbook processing and bank reconciliations

Preparing and posting journals

Balance sheet reconciliations

Costing and allocating invoices across departments

Assisting with month-end processes

Providing holiday cover for payroll

Investigating discrepancies and resolving account queries

Supporting the finance team with ad hoc accounting and administrative duties

What We're Looking For

Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar finance role

Strong understanding of high-volume transactional finance processes

Experience preparing journals and performing balance sheet reconciliations

Highly detail-oriented with strong analytical skills

Confident reviewing balances, investigating variances and resolving discrepancies

Able to look beyond data entry and understand the impact of transactions across the accounts

Good Excel skills, including the ability to work with existing formulas, identify errors and review calculations

Organised, proactive and able to manage a varied workload
