Job Description

πŸ“ Berlin, Germany | Full-time | Office-first

Team description

The AI AML Engineering squad sits at the heart of SumUp's Risk & Compliance tribe, building the data products and engineering solutions that protect millions of small businesses from financial crime. We're in the middle of something genuinely new: Risk Decision Center (RDC), also known as SumUp Sentinel, is our flagship product designed to automate up to 90% of fraud and AML case investigations β€” and it can only work if the data underneath it is correct, complete, and trusted. This role exists because we can't build reliable automation on shaky foundations, and we need an engineer who cares deeply about getting that right.

What you'll do

Build and operate production-grade Python data pipelines that power AI-driven decisioning and near real-time analytics within Risk Decision Center and SAR Studio

Own data quality end-to-end: designing validations, monitoring, alerting, and clear SLAs so that analysts, data scientists, and AI systems can rely on what they're seeing

Build and maintain scalable regulatory reporting pipelines, supporting recurring submissions and ad-hoc regulator requests with full audit trails, versioning, and reproducible outputs

Define and document data architecture, dataset ownership, and lineage to reduce knowledge silos and improve operational maturity across the squad

Collaborate closely with Data Platform and a cross-functional team of data scientists, ML engineers, software engineers, and analysts to ship safely in production

You'll be great for this role if…

Strong proficiency in Python data engineering, with a track record of building and operating scalable pipelines in production environments

Solid SQL and data modelling skills, with a genuine quality mindset: experience setting standards, writing validations, and keeping data trustworthy at scale

Experience working with AWS technologies such as S3, EKS, Athena, or Keyspaces, and comfort with containers (Docker), vers
