Payroll Manager
Wiltshire | £40,000–£45,000 | Permanent | Office Based
Weare delighted to be supporting a well-established, independent professional services firm with the appointment of a Payroll Manager.
This is more than a role focused on processing payroll. You'll take ownership of the wider payroll function, lead an established team and become a key point of contact for a varied portfolio of clients.
It's an opportunity for someone who enjoys the technical side of payroll but also wants to have a genuine influence on how a payroll service operates, develops and is delivered to clients.
What you'll be doing
Lead and develop the payroll team, setting high standards and supporting ongoing professional development. Take ownership of a diverse portfolio of weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls. Ensure payrolls are delivered accurately, compliantly and to deadline. Oversee CIS payroll and compliance, including submissions and client reporting. Manage auto-enrolment pensions, from assessments through to provider liaison and regulatory reporting. Become a trusted payroll adviser to clients, providing guidance on legislation, payroll policies and workforce costs. Take ownership of more complex payroll matters including statutory payments, bonuses, incentives and terminations. Build strong relationships with clients, HMRC, pension providers and other key stakeholders. * Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve efficiency and enhance the overall payroll offering.
3+ years' experience in a senior payroll position, preferably within a bureau or multi-client environment. Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, statutory requirements and employment-related legislation. Previous experience leading, mentoring or developing a payroll team. Confidence managing multiple payroll frequencies and complex calculations. Strong client-facing and relationship management skills. Experience with payroll software; IRIS would be a distinct advantage. CIPP qualification or equivalent practical payroll experience. Excellent attention to detail, organisation and problem-solving ability.
