Financial Accountant

Financial Accountant will be joining the Finance team within a large and complex charity organisation until the end of November with hybrid flexibility (2 days in the office).

The role

Financial Accountant will play a key role in delivering accurate financial reporting, maintaining robust financial controls, and supporting the organisation through month-end and year-end processes. Financial Accountant requires strong technical accounting skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Key responsibilities

Lead the preparation of statutory accounts and support year-end audit activities.

Act as the main contact for external auditors, coordinating audit requirements and deliverables.

Prepare VAT and Corporation Tax returns and ensure compliance with tax regulations.

Manage month-end close activities, including journals, accruals, prepayments, and bank reconciliations.

Maintain the fixed asset register and post depreciation journals.

Complete balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies promptly.

Support the production of monthly management accounts and financial reporting.

Maintain strong financial controls, policies, and procedures to ensure ledger accuracy and compliance.

Identify and implement improvements to finance processes, systems, and reporting.

Partner with stakeholders across the organisation, providing financial support for projects and business initiatives.

Essential Skills & Experience

* Fully or part qualified accountant (ACCA/CIMA/CIPFA/ACA or equivalent).

* Previous experience working in a financial accounting role within a large organisation or charity; including he use and development of systems and procedures.

* Strong experience of bank reconciliations, month-end and year-end close processes, journal preparation and posting, VAT returns, and balance sheet reconciliations.

* Experience managing or supervising finance staff.

* Strong Excel and financial systems skills.

*High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
