Financial Accountant will be joining the Finance team within a large and complex charity organisation for 6 months.
The role
Financial Accountant will play a key role in delivering accurate financial reporting, maintaining robust financial controls, and supporting the organisation through month-end and year-end processes. Financial Accountant requires strong technical accounting skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Key responsibilities
Take ownership of bank reconciliations across multiple accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies and outstanding items.
Manage prepayments, accruals, and other month-end adjustments, ensuring accurate and timely accounting entries.
Prepare and post manual journals, including payroll, depreciation, and balance sheet adjustments.
Complete balance sheet and control account reconciliations, maintaining strong financial controls and data integrity.
Support the production of monthly management accounts, year-end close activities, and audit requirements.
Prepare VAT returns and ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal policies.
Provide guidance and support to junior finance staff and review their work where required.
Work closely with stakeholders across the organisation, providing financial information and resolving queries.
Act as a hands-on Financial Accountant, comfortable working through manual processes, analysing transactions in detail, and maintaining accuracy without relying solely on system-generated outputs.
Essential Skills & Experience
Fully or part qualified accountant (ACCA/CIMA/CIPFA/ACA or equivalent).
Previous experience working in a financial accounting role within a large organisation or charity; including he use and development of systems and procedures.
Strong experience of bank reconciliations, month-end and year-end close processes, journal preparation and posting, VAT returns, and balance sheet reconciliations.
Experience managing or supervising finance staff.
Strong Excel and financial systems skills.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
