We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Finance Manager to take ownership of day-to-day finance within a small, ambitious purpose-led organisation.

Salary: £45,000–£54,000 FTE, depending on experience Location: Hybrid – London office and home working Hours: 4 or 5 days per week Closing date: Sunday 4 October 2026 First-round interviews: Week commencing 12 October 2026 Second-round interviews: Week commencing 19 October 2026

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Finance Manager to join a small, purpose-led organisation working at the intersection of finance and positive social and environmental impact.

Reporting to the Finance Director, you will take ownership of a broad finance remit covering management accounting, financial operations, budgeting and forecasting, grants and project finance.

Key responsibilities include

Leading monthly management accounts and month-end processes.

Supporting budgets, forecasts, cash-flow forecasting and variance analysis.

Working closely with budget holders and project leads.

Managing grant and project budgets, monitoring and funder reporting.

Overseeing accounts payable and receivable, payroll, expenses and reconciliations.

Supporting year-end accounts, audit and VAT returns.

Maintaining accurate financial information using Xero.

Improving and automating finance processes and controls.

About you

You will have strong hands-on management accounting experience including management accounts, month-end, budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations and variance analysis.

Experience of grants, funding or externally funded projects would be particularly valuable, alongside experience supporting year-end accounts and audit.

You will have strong Excel skills and experience using Xero or an equivalent accounting system. A recognised ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification is preferred.

You will be proactive, collaborative and highly organised, with the confidence to work independently and explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues.

Experience within a charity, not-for-profit, research, institute or other purpose-led organisation would be highly desirable.

Collaborative and purpose-led, the organisation works with a wide range of stakeholders and is continuing to strengthen its in-house finance function. This role offers plenty of scope to take ownership, improve processes and make financial information increasingly useful across the organisation.
