Duty Manager - Convenience Retail

This role is based in the Shirley store

Salary: £30,000 - £32,000 Contract: Full Time (40 hours per week) Hours: Includes weekends and bank holidays

Important Information

Assessment Day: 3rd September (approximately 1 hour)

Successful candidates may be invited to a second-stage face-to-face interview on the same day

The first 12 weeks of training will take place at our Birmingham store, so candidates must be able to commute during this period

Guaranteed at least one day off every weekend

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced and hands-on Duty Manager to oversee the daily running of our busy high street convenience store. You'll lead the team, ensure exceptional customer service, and maintain high standards across ambient, fresh, frozen, and hot food categories.

Key Responsibilities

Store Operations

Oversee day-to-day store activities, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, compliance, and availability.

Manage replenishment, stock control, deliveries, date checks, waste reduction, and loss prevention.

Support hot food preparation, cash handling, and goods-in processes.

Maintain strong product presentation and execute promotional activity.

Open and close the store as a key holder.

Team Leadership

Lead, coach, and develop store colleagues.

Manage rotas to ensure effective staffing levels.

Conduct performance reviews and address employee matters professionally.

Customer Service

Deliver an outstanding customer experience through a friendly and knowledgeable team.

Resolve customer queries and complaints efficiently.

Build strong relationships within the local community.

Commercial Performance

Help achieve sales, profit, and KPI targets, including availability, waste, and shrinkage.

Monitor costs and support budget control.

Report operational and financial performance as required.

About You

Previous retail management or supervisory experience.

Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.

Customer-focused with a proactive, hands-on approach.

Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and make effective decisions.

Flexible to work shifts, including weekends and bank holidays.
