City + Capital are currently representing a highly ambitious & growing development & bridging finance lender that have engaged our services to appoint a confident and proactive Credit & Portfolio Manager at a truly exciting time.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a progressive, well-funded lender at an important stage of their development where you can add real and meaningful value to business objectives.
The Company
Our client supports property developers & investors with access to funds for land, development and short-term property finance requirements. Typical loan sizes vary to a maximum of c£7.5m.
The business offers a highly visible platform for someone who wants to be close to the full lending process, rather than sitting in a narrow, siloed position. With a small but growing team and a growth-led environment, the successful candidate will have the chance to make a meaningful impact across live transactions, borrower relationships and the wider lending function.
This appointment is being made to support the next stage of the company’s growth. The role will suit someone who enjoys specialist property lending, understands the importance of strong credit work and wants wider ownership from application through to redemption.
Role Overview
The Credit & Portfolio Manager is an exciting and varied role as it offers the successful applicant access to the core stages of bridging and development funding.
Within the role, you will work with the sales team to help assess and build cases from point of enquiry. This will include creating initial credit papers, liaising with brokers & underwriting deals.
Where deals are successfully underwritten, you will support the completion and transaction execution to fund the application. Once deals are funded, you will support the performance of the portfolio, including (but not limited to) collections, client relationship management & redemptions. For development loans, you will support site visits across the UK where required.
Throughout, you will work closely with senior management as well as external stakeholders, such as lawyers and QS.
Ultimately you will drive the pipeline of activity to achieve important deadlines and outcomes for the business & clients.
Responsibilities
• Process loan applications and assess borrower information & documents
• Review creditworthiness, risk factors and potential red flags across lending transactions
• Prepare and finalise credit papers, recommendations and supporting documentation
• Manually underwrite deals and manage the approvals process
• Liaise with brokers, borrowers, solicitors, surveyors, valuers and other third parties
• Coordinate the loan completion process and ensure accurate documentation
• Maintain accurate loan data on company systems in line with internal policies and processes
• Provide clear communication to clients and intermediaries throughout
• Monitor live loans, identify risks and support borrowers through to loan redemption
• Work with clients during the final 60 days of the loan term to support timely redemption
• Support senior management, legal advisers and other parties in managing defaults
• Help build and maintain strong relationships with clients, brokers and introducers
Candidate Requirements
The ideal candidate for this role will have experience in the property finance or mortgage markets. As this is a varied role, you do not need to have achieved all aspects of the JD as full training will be given on areas that require most support.
It is likely that the successful candidate may have held mortgage administration, case management, underwriting, credit or portfolio management experience within the property finance or mortgage markets.
The ideal personality traits include someone that is happy managing multiple projects simultaneously, that enjoys a fast paced and dynamic environment and that is ambitious and keen to achieve the best career possible within short-term property finance lending.
• Experience in property finance or mortgages
• A good knowledge of underwriting/credit principles that underpin quality lending
• Ability to assess financial information, identify risks and make recommendations
• Experience working with brokers, borrowers, solicitors, valuers and other third parties
• Comfortable managing live loans from application through to redemption
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases at different stages
• Good written communication skills, particularly around credit papers & loan documentation
• Commercial, pragmatic and solution-focused approach
• High attention to detail and strong sense of personal ownership
• Proactive and forward thinking
On Offer
Our client is ideally looking to pay up to c£65k as a basic package, relevant to experience. Higher offers may be considered for an exceptional track record and potential.
Salary will be complemented by access to a favourable bonus scheme which can significantly enhance annual take home.
Notably, as our client is in growth, this is also a role that comes with plenty of opportunity to propel salary & career standing forward within, as excellent performance is delivered. Our client operates a strong and proven promote from within policy & expects the team to swell on the basis of growth objectives.
Therefore, for those looking for somewhere that they can develop and grow – this is a strong option.
Please note this is a hybrid role offering time between home and the office.
