Job Description

🚀 We’re on a mission to make money work for everyone.

We’re waving goodbye to the complicated and confusing ways of traditional banking.

After starting as a prepaid card, our product offering has grown a lot in the last 10 years in the UK. As well as personal and business bank accounts, we offer joint accounts, accounts for 16-17 year olds, a free kids account and credit cards in the UK, with more exciting things to come beyond. Our UK customers can also save, invest and combine their pensions with us.

With our hot coral cards and get-paid-early feature, combined with financial education on social media and our award winning customer service, we have a long history of creating magical moments for our customers!

We’re not about selling products - we want to solve problems and change lives through Monzo ❤️

📍London (UK) | 💰 £75,000 - £95,000, Incentive Awards tied to your performance + Benefits | Hear from the team ✨

We’re looking for a Chief of Staff to partner closely with our Chief Design Officer, to drive the impact that she and our talented Design team (Brand Design, Product Design, User Research) can have across the business, product, and brand.

Having a Design leadership background is highly desirable. You’ll at least need to understand Design, and recognise its strategic value for Monzo, with an eye for style, quality, and impact.

Your superpower will be in creating efficient processes, complex programme management, and crafting clear narratives through excellent communication, to align and elevate our Design efforts, also partnering closely with peers in Marketing and Product.

You’ll play a pivotal role in propelling our international expansion efforts by empowering our Chief Design Officer, and the wider Design org, amplifying overall effectiveness, and helping us achieve our strategic company goals.

🔑 You’ll play a key role by…

Developing a system that creates (actionable) visibility of key work across our customer experience Making it easy for designers and researchers to share highlights of work, async and in person

Working with peers in Marketing and Product to create a system for effective collaboration on key priorities

Operationalising ways to deliver our magical brand with high efficiency, consistency and quality across the business

Improving our processes (or creating some) that enables designers to better work and think across squads and teams, with more focus on full customer lifecycle

Champion the scaling and adoption of our Monzo Design System, elevating its practicality and value across teams

Developing our design disciplines (Brand Design, Product Design, User Research)

Attracting world class talent

Ensuring we develop in an inclusive and diverse manner

Helping us scale globally and easily

Identifying gaps in our existing skill sets and how we could fill the gaps by developing people internally or hiring externally

Level up our onboarding documentation, progression frameworks, and other material to help the team grow

Help develop our wide suite of AI tooling and ways of working in a fast-moving environment

Retaining and elevating talent

Set rituals and mechanisms for developing craft and community in the design org

Chief Design Officer’s external and internal role and comms

Strategy for clear and consistent comms within design disciplines, across the tech org, with company leadership and other executives, and with key external stakeholders including media

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

You have strong experience in operationalising design processes to enhance efficiency, consistency, and quality, ideally in a rapidly evolving tech environment, with a bias for action.

You’re adept at developing lightweight systems for cross-functional visibility, enabling seamless asynchronous and in-person sharing of insights and highlights.

Have a proven track record in developing and nurturing design disciplines such as Brand Design, Product Design, and User
