Are you excited about the potential of emerging technologies and how they can reshape entire industries? Would you like to be part of a team building real-world quantum solutions for customers across defence, telecom, finance, energy, and transport? Are you willing to drive and shape what this technology becomes next?
QMill builds quantum-powered solutions for security and optimisation problems across defence, telecom, finance, energy, and transport. We turn promising quantum algorithms into products organisations can deploy, running on today's real quantum computers and grounded in genuine quantum innovations. QMill is headquartered in the greater Helsinki area in Finland, one of the world's leading quantum community hubs, and we are growing internationally through an expanding network of sites, with the UK among the first. Our team brings together people of many different nationalities. We are well networked internationally and actively cooperating with the leading players in the field.
We are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to lead the day-to-day running of QMill's new UK office and drive our customer relations across the UK. You will be based in the UK, reporting to the Head of Business Development & Strategy, and working closely with the wider Business Development team as well as our R&D and Sales teams. Your precise work location can be negotiated.
While a background in quantum computing is not mandatory, we're looking for someone with experience in business development within a deep tech, scale-up, or technology-driven environment, who has a genuine interest in the potential of quantum computing and is eager to learn more about this groundbreaking field. The ideal candidate also has deep understanding of the cybersecurity solutions market in the following sectors: telecommunication, defence, banking and financial services.
What will you do
Lead the day-to-day operations of QMill's UK office and act as line manager for the UK team
Monitor the team's progress, managing risks and dependencies
Engage closely with customers, partners, and other stakeholders, helping ensure customer projects move forward and milestones are met on time
Build and maintain a strong UK sales pipeline together with Sales, contributing directly to QMill's revenue growth
Track local funding opportunities, such as R&D and scale-up grants
Prepare materials and present them to company leadership, investors, customers, and other stakeholders as needed
Support the wider Business Development team and QMill leadership across business development and strategy topics, contributing to QMill's international expansion
Support UK office governance, including compliance with local regulation
We are looking for
Minimum 5 years of experience in business development, sales, or a similar commercial role, ideally within a technology or deep tech environment
Experience of leading and managing a team of experts, or strong capability to do so
Understanding of the UK business landscape, preferably including relevant government funding schemes such as R&D and scale-up grants
Strong communication and engagement skills with customers and senior stakeholders, including leadership, the Board of Directors, and investors
Existing network or experience in targeted business sectors is an advantage
University degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field (preferably a Master’s or equivalent degree)
Eligibility to work in the UK and travel within the EU
What you need to succeed
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, comfortable working with customers and across technical, product, and business teams
Fluent written and spoken English
A proactive, creative approach to solving problems
Strong focus on efficiency and follow-through
Curiosity and drive to explore the potential of quantum computing
Passion to engage with customers and other stakeholders to deeply understand their needs and to provide them with value-creating solutions
Comfort building relationships and communicating complex technology in terms that resonate with customers and other key stakeholders
What we are offering
At QMill, you will have the opportunity to be part of and contribute to
Building practical solutions at the frontier of quantum computing. We create quantum-powered security and optimisation solutions designed to address demanding problems across defence, telecom, finance, energy, and transport.
Helping move quantum computing from potential to product. We turn promising research into solutions organisations can actually deploy, grounded in both a clear read on customer needs and the technology itself.
Solving ambitious problems with an exceptional team. QMill brings together experienced scientists, engineers, product developers, and business professionals with the ambition and capabilities to build genuinely useful quantum-powered solutions.
Having a real influence on what we build. We value curiosity, sound judgement, and people who develop ideas together. Your contribution can shape our technology, product priorities, customer value, and business.
Growing with a rapidly advancing field. As quantum computing moves from research toward real-world adoption, you will tackle new challenges, broaden your expertise, and help define what useful quantum computing can become.
