What you'll be doing…
Join us at the forefront of the bank's payment connectivity strategy. As Product Owner for the Swift Lab, you'll lead a high performing delivery team focused on the group's critically important "front door" connectivity to the SWIFT network - the global secure messaging backbone that underpins all of our cross border and CHAPS payment flows.
This is a senior delivery leadership role where you'll drive the execution of a significant change portfolio, including our strategic 2027-2030 modernisation roadmap. Steer the evolution of our SWIFT connectivity stack, including the replacement of the GT Exchange (GTX) application with our own next generation gateway, alongside major infrastructure uplift and application modernisation programmes.
You'll inspire and motivate colleagues across the Lab, creating strong followship and fostering a culture where people feel empowered to perform at their best. As a senior leader within the Payments Services Platform, you'll role model collaborative behaviours, nurture talent, and build an inclusive, high performing team environment.
As part of the Platform's senior leadership group, you'll bring a strong horizontal attitude - looking beyond your immediate product to identify cross platform opportunities, support integrated outcomes, and drive continuous improvement across PSP.
In this role, you'll shape the product's commercialisation and value-realisation approach - defining clear service propositions, adoption plans, cost-to-serve views and benefits cases - so the roadmap delivers measurable outcomes for the Group. You'll also lead the delivery of critical SWIFT connectivity capabilities, keeping work aligned to agreed priorities, regulatory deadlines and the Lab's capacity.
You'll be a key point of connection across the Payments Services Platform, building and managing relationships with in Operations, Fraud, CISO, Architecture, Programme Delivery and external partners. Day to day, you'll keep a strong focus on risk, security, resilience and compliance, and you'll partner closely with engineering leadership to ensure solutions are robust, modern and scalable. You'll use data and service insights to guide prioritisation and continuous improvement, while championing the Lab's culture and capability - empowering colleagues and helping the team deliver exceptional outcomes.
Why Join Us?
This is a rare opportunity to lead the transformation of one of the most critical components of the bank's payments ecosystem. You'll play a defining role in shaping how the Group connects to the global payments network today - and how it will operate in the future!
What We're Looking For
Demonstrable, end-to-end product ownership experience (vision, strategy, roadmap, prioritisation and lifecycle management) for a platform or service in a complex, regulated environment.
Deep domain knowledge of payments, financial messaging and international banking, with an external perspective on market trends, competitor/peer approaches and SWIFT direction (including ISO 20022 evolution).
Strong understanding of secure, resilient connectivity platforms (integration patterns, controls, operational resilience) and the ability to partner effectively with engineering and operations to shape the solution.
Demonstrated ability to inspire teams, build followship, and cultivate a positive, high performance culture. You lead with authenticity, empathy and clarity, supporting colleagues to thrive and enabling sustained team performance.
Strong leadership and influencing skills, able to align diverse interests and make clear product decisions and trade-offs at pace.
Evidence-based prioritisation skills, using customer/business outcomes, data, risk and cost/value to shape a roadmap and investment case.
Desirable
Familiarity with SWIFT products (e.g. FIN, ISO 20022, RMA, SRM, CSP controls).
Experience overseeing infrastructure modernisation or gateway migrations.
Understanding of the broader Payments Services Platform and UK regulatory landscape.
