Street Lighting Engineer

Street Lighting Engineer Greater Manchester | 12-Month Contract

Venn Group is currently recruiting for an experienced Street Lighting Engineer on behalf of a local authority in Greater Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity for a highways lighting professional to play a key role in the delivery, maintenance and improvement of public lighting infrastructure across a large and complex urban highway network. The Role The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective delivery and continuous improvement of street lighting services, ensuring assets remain safe, compliant and operationally efficient. The role combines technical engineering expertise with project management responsibilities, overseeing maintenance programmes, lighting schemes and contractor performance. Key Responsibilities

Lead the planning, coordination and delivery of street lighting maintenance and improvement programmes.

Oversee the design and technical review of street lighting proposals for highways and development schemes.

Manage street lighting assets, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, performance targets and industry standards.

Coordinate routine and reactive maintenance activities across a network of approximately 61,750 illuminated assets.

Monitor contractor performance, ensuring quality, value for money and adherence to health and safety requirements.

Undertake site inspections, audits and quality assurance activities to ensure works are completed to the required standard.

Support the implementation of innovative technologies, energy efficiency initiatives and sustainable infrastructure solutions.

Liaise with developers, residents, councillors, contractors and internal stakeholders regarding street lighting projects and service delivery.

Manage project budgets, programmes, risks and technical compliance across a range of maintenance and improvement schemes.

Candidate Requirements

Proven experience in street lighting engineering within a highways or local authority environment.

Experience managing lighting maintenance programmes, projects and contractors.

Knowledge of street lighting design, asset management and relevant industry legislation.

Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills.

Experience carrying out inspections, audits and technical reviews.

Ability to produce technical reports, specifications and project documentation.

Degree or MSc in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, HNC/HND in Engineering, or Chartered/Incorporated Engineer status with a relevant professional institution.
