Senior Software Engineer - Java / Python/ AWS

Location: London, Victoria Embankment (5 days onsite) Duration: 12-Month Contract Day rate: Circa £750 per day (Inside IR35)

A leading global financial services organisation is seeking a Senior Java / Python Engineer to join a high-performing Asset Management Research Technology team in London. This role offers the opportunity to work on innovative cloud and AI-driven platforms within a fast-paced agile engineering environment.

You will play a key role in developing scalable, secure, and cloud-native applications while contributing to cutting-edge AI initiatives, including RAG-based semantic search and LLM workflows.

Required Skills & Experience

Strong commercial experience with Java and Python development

Advanced knowledge of AWS cloud services and cloud-native architecture

Experience designing, building, testing, and supporting enterprise-scale applications

Hands-on expertise developing secure, high-quality production code

Strong understanding of software engineering best practices and SDLC

Experience working within Agile engineering teams

Knowledge of AI/ML technologies and intelligent application development

Experience with RAG-based semantic search and LLM inference workflows

Exposure to OpenAI and Claude models

Ability to independently solve complex technical and design challenges

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical discipline

Preferred Experience

Proven experience owning solutions end-to-end in an individual contributor role

Ability to influence technical direction and engineering decisions

Passion for emerging technologies and continuous improvement
