Service Charge Accountant

Service Charge Accountant Location: Birmingham Salary: £32,000–£36,000 per annum Contract: Permanent Working pattern: Hybrid

We’re working with a well-established property business in Birmingham that is looking for an experienced Service Charge Accountant to join its finance team.This is a varied role where you’ll take responsibility for the service charge accounting across a portfolio of properties, working closely with property managers and the wider finance team to ensure all budgets, reconciliations and year-end accounts are completed accurately and on time.

The role You’ll be responsible for:

Preparing annual service charge budgets

Producing year-end service charge accounts and reconciliations

Reviewing income and expenditure against budget

Investigating and explaining service charge variances

Posting accruals, prepayments and other relevant journals

Maintaining accurate financial records across the property portfolio

Liaising with property managers regarding budgets, expenditure and queries

Responding to service charge queries from internal and external stakeholders

Providing information and supporting documentation for year-end reviews and audits

Ensuring deadlines are met across multiple service charge schedules

Supporting improvements to current processes, reporting and controls

About you We’re looking for someone who has:

Previous service charge or property accounting experience

Experience preparing service charge budgets and year-end reconciliations

Strong reconciliation and financial reporting skills

Confidence managing multiple properties and competing deadlines

Good Excel skills and experience using accounting or property management systems

Strong attention to detail

The ability to communicate clearly with both finance and non-finance stakeholders
