About the team
The Financial General Ledger (FGL) team sits at the strategic core of SumUp's financial operations. We're not your typical accounting team , we own the financial integrity of SumUp's core business, ensuring every euro of revenue and cost from our lending, payments, and merchant banking products is accurately captured and analyzed.
As SumUp scales exponentially, lending volumes growing, our work has evolved into a highly analytical, data-driven function. We combine deep accounting knowledge with SQL queries, AI-assisted reconciliation tools, and advanced data analytics to understand not just what was recorded, but why and how our business operates financially. This is analytical accounting at its core you'll analyze product mechanics, trace complex payment flows, and use technology to automate routine work, freeing you to focus on the analytical challenges that matter.
This senior role is the technical anchor of the FGL team: you'll drive reconciliation quality, solve the toughest accounting puzzles, mentor junior teammates, and shape how we scale our processes intelligently.
What you'll do
Own complex, high-impact reconciliations
Reconcile core revenue streams including acquirer settlements, chargebacks, and merchant payables,identifying root causes of mismatches between automated system postings and actual cash flows
Review and oversee postings and bank reconciliation work completed by junior accountants, ensuring
accuracy, completeness, and audit-ready documentation
Build and maintain a structured tracking log for open reconciling items, with clear resolution timelines and
root-cause analysis
Ensure technical accounting accuracy across products
Record processing fee accruals and resolve settlement and funding mismatches
Apply IFRS 9 revenue recognition standards to lending and payments activity
Understand product mechanics and payment flows to determine proper accounting treatment for each
