You will be the bridge between what the business needs and what technology delivers. This is a hybrid role - part business analyst, part data specialist - where you will need to roll up your sleeves and analyse source systems directly, not just document what stakeholders tell you. You will translate complex data requirements into actionable specifications, challenge requirements that are unfeasible or technically costly, and ensure data definitions align consistently across business groups. This role is about building permanent, in-house expertise and capabilities.
Key Responsibilities for this Role
Proven track record of documenting / cataloguing data requirements for existing business processes and redesigned business processes
Lead complex data analysis to validate business requirements - interrogating source systems directly rather than relying solely on stakeholder interviews
Translate data requirements into measurable business outcomes, supporting improved decision making and operational efficiency
Assess and document upstream and downstream data flows, dependencies and interdependencies within the enterprise data architecture
Produce clear technical IT change specifications and narratives that translate business needs into specifications technology teams can build against, with full end-to-end traceability
Interrogate and sense-check requirements from a sustainable data perspective, challenging and providing alternative solutions when requirements are unfeasible or technically costly
Work closely with data engineering teams to ensure requirements are accurately converted into built data products.
Influence senior stakeholders to align on data definitions, priorities and strategic data initiatives
Lead data quality assessments and support the development of data-driven improvement strategies, enforce and apply data governance in line with enterprise data governance frameworks
Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience Our ideal candidate is analytically rigorous, digging into the detail and validating information rather than taking requirements at face value. You're confident constructively challenging where things don't stack up from a data perspective, while maintaining strong, productive relationships. A natural bridge between business and technology teams, you communicate clearly and can translate complex ideas in both directions. With a pragmatic approach to problem solving, you balance ideal data solutions with real-world delivery constraints. Above all, you are highly collaborative, working seamlessly across data engineering teams, business SMEs and senior stakeholders to drive the right outcomes.
Proven expertise combining business analysis, data analysis and data cataloguing skills to identify and document data requirements - you can analyse source systems and data
Proficient use of enterprise data platforms, semantic models, and dimensional modelling (star schemas, fact/dimension tables)
Proficient using data architecture principles, ETL processes, and data pipeline concepts
Track record of data modelling, architecture and use of data cataloguing tools
Proficiency in SQL for data validation and analysis; familiarity with data visualisation tools and cloud-based data platforms. Familiarity with Snowflake, Azure, Databricks, PowerBI.
Track record translating complex data requirements into technical specifications in financial services and/or Life operations
Ability to translate technical data concepts into business friendly language for diverse stakeholders up to senior leadership level
Strong experience of working in the Financial services industry, with exposure to the Life industry and PLC environment an advantage.
We'd love to hear from you if you're someone who's genuinely curious - the kind of person who asks thoughtful questions and digs a little deeper to understand what's really going on. You enjoy working with others and naturally bring people together, even when things feel a bit unclear. You think ahead, notice patterns early and stay focused on creating real value for the people around you.
Most of all, you care about making things better - for colleagues, for customers, and for the workplace as a whole.
If this sounds like you, we want you to apply!
