About Zego
Insurance hasn't changed much in over a century. The way we live, work and travel has.
Good drivers are the entire point of Zego. Seven in 10 drivers on the road are consistently good, but until telematics came along there was no way to prove it, so nearly everyone paid a price based on averages. Zego is the company built to change that.
At Zego, we're leading the AI evolution in insurance.
We move fast, without the layers that usually slow things down. AI takes the routine work off every team, from Finance to Product to Marketing, so people ship real code and launch custom dashboards in minutes. Engineering commits are entirely AI-assisted, which shifts the focus from team size to the quality of your thinking and our data warehouse connects directly to an AI assistant for instant answers. Backed by a modern tech stack (Claude Code, Snowflake, Figma and Zapier) and a commitment to adopting new tools in days rather than quarters, you get complete ownership to do the most impactful work of your career.
What you will be doing
Own the design of robust, scalable data models and exposures in dbt, Snowflake & Looker and set the patterns and conventions the wider team reuses
Make/document the architectural decisions and trade-offs that shape our data platform
Define and champion the trust infrastructure of testing, data contracts and observability, so the business can depend on our models
Shape how the team puts AI to work - improving the tooling and practices around AI-assisted development, as well as using them, and critically reviewing the SQL that comes out
Raise the technical bar as an anchor for the team, through code review, mentoring and pairing
Turn ambiguous business problems into well scoped requirements and well designed metrics, working directly with stakeholders and enabling self-service in our BI tools
Own quality, reliability and stability across models and pipelines, including third-party integrations such as Amplitude, Segment and Google Ads and secure data shares for external partners
What you will need to be successful
Senior Analytics engineering experience - 5+ years as an Analytics Engineer or in a similar role
Expert SQL - You write it fluently, debug it fast and critically review it - including AI-generated code, with a sharp eye for where it goes subtly wrong
Proven data modelling ownership - Dimensional modelling, defining grain and shaping the structure of a data domain from the ground up for warehousing and BI
Deep, hands-on platform experience - dbt plus modern platforms such as Snowflake, Looker, AWS or GCP, with sound engineering practices around Git and ideally some Python
A track record of raising the standard around you - Mentoring, reviewing or setting the technical direction others follow, with the commercial acumen to connect data work to business outcomes
You work AI-first - You will use AI daily here, and we mean daily. You do not need to arrive an expert, but you do need to arrive curious, experiment fast, and take ownership of getting good quickly. People who wait to be trained will find this uncomfortable
