Senior Accountant

Senior Accountant Location: West London Rate: £37 per hour (Umbrella) Contract: 6-month ongoing contract Working Pattern: Hybrid – 1 to 2 days per week in the office

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Accountant to join a busy Finance team within a Local Authority in West London.

This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with recent local authority experience to support key financial functions, including budget preparation, budget monitoring, year-end accounts and financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and manage revenue and capital budgets for allocated service areas.

Carry out budget monitoring and provide accurate financial forecasts.

Support the year-end close-down process and production of final accounts.

Review and identify savings opportunities, providing financial analysis and recommendations.

Provide financial advice and support to budget holders and senior managers.

Prepare financial reports, business cases and management information.

Ensure compliance with financial regulations, accounting standards and council policies.

Analyse financial data and identify trends to support decision-making.

Support the continuous improvement of financial processes and controls.

Work collaboratively with stakeholders across the organisation to deliver high-quality financial services.

About You

Recent Local Authority finance experience is essential.

Experience preparing budgets, monitoring expenditure and closing accounts.

Experience identifying and reviewing savings opportunities.

Knowledge of local government finance, financial regulations and accounting practices.

Experience using the IBC Financial System is highly desirable.

Strong Excel and financial analysis skills.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
