Senior Accountant

Are you a qualified accountant who wants your own client portfolio, real ownership and a clear path up as the business grows? This is a great opportunity to join a fast-growing business whose Accountancy-as-a-Service team is scaling quickly.

The role

You'll report into the Senior Manager for this growing business and look after your own portfolio of SME, start-up and owner-managed clients. You'll be their main point of contact and trusted advisor, covering everything from bookkeeping review to year-end accounts and tax. You'll also help shape how the team delivers its services as it grows.

This is a predominantly a role that will be reviewing the working papers / accounts prepared by the team - candidates must have review experience and must have worked with high client volumes.

What you'll be doing

Review and sign off work prepared by team members before submission, including PAYE and VAT registrations, payroll and RTI submissions, VAT returns and CIS returns

Review year-end statutory accounts prepared under FRS 105, FRS 102 Section 1A and FRS 102, together with the related corporation tax returns

Review Self Assessment tax returns for company directors

Prepare more complex or non-standard accounts and returns yourself where needed

Manage your own review queue independently, prioritising by statutory deadline and risk across a high volume of clients

Give clear, constructive feedback to preparers, helping to raise first-time quality across the team

Review bookkeeping and bank reconciliations in Xero, making sure client records are accurate, complete and up to date

Handle technical client queries, escalating complex or high-risk matters to the Accounting Manager

Managing statutory deadlines so every filing goes in accurately and on time

Mentoring and reviewing the work of junior colleagues

Helping build internal guidance and templates, and improving processes, tools and client education

What you'll bring

Fully qualified: ACA, ACCA or equivalent

Strong working knowledge of FRS 102/105, corporation tax, VAT and Self Assessment

Confident talking to clients, with a practical, commercial approach to advice

Organised enough to handle a busy portfolio and multiple deadlines

Happy to share what you know and support the wider team
