About the Opportunity

A well-established and growing accountancy practice is looking to recruit a Senior Accountant to join their central Bristol office. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified or finalist / QBE accountant looking to take on an opportunity to manage their own portfolio of clients with exposure to a broad range of clients and accounting assignments within a supportive general practice environment.

Role

The successful candidate will manage their own portfolio of clients, providing a proactive and high-quality service across accounts, taxation, and advisory matters. This is a client-facing role requiring strong technical expertise, commercial awareness, and the ability to build long-term client relationships.The Senior Accountant will take ownership of a diverse portfolio of SMEs, limited companies, partnerships, and sole traders, acting as a trusted adviser while ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

Portfolio Management

Manage a portfolio of clients across a range of industries.

Act as the primary point of contact for clients, providing timely advice and support.

Build and maintain strong client relationships, identifying opportunities to add value.

Accounts Preparation

Review and prepare statutory accounts for limited companies, partnerships, and sole traders.

Ensure compliance with UK GAAP, FRS102, and FRS105 requirements.

Review work completed by junior team members and provide constructive feedback.

Liaise with clients to resolve technical and accounting queries.

Tax Compliance

Review corporation tax returns and computations.

Review personal tax returns for directors, business owners, and high-net-worth individuals.

Identify tax planning opportunities and discuss recommendations with clients.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UK tax legislation.

Advisory Services

Support clients with management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.

Provide business and financial advice to help clients achieve their objectives.

Support directors and partners with specialist projects and consultancy assignments.

Team Leadership

Mentor and develop junior accountants and trainees.

Review work and ensure compliance with firm standards.

Person Specification

ACA or ACCA qualified or finalist or QBE

Strong background working within an accountancy practice environment.

Experience managing a client portfolio independently.

Excellent knowledge of accounts preparation a

Experience reviewing and supervising the work of junior staff.

Strong communication and relationship management skills.

Commercially minded with a proactive approach to client service.
