With decades of engineering and manufacturing experience, the business has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality, technically complex control solutions. Due to continued growth and development, they are now looking to appoint a Principal Engineer to provide technical leadership across the design function and play a key role in the ongoing development of the engineering team. The Opportunity This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced electrical/control systems engineer who enjoys combining technical leadership with people development, continuous improvement and customer engagement.
Working as part of an established engineering team, you will lead the design function while working closely with manufacturing, estimating, customers and the wider business to ensure projects are delivered to the highest standards of quality, cost and performance.
You will have the opportunity to influence engineering strategy, develop processes and standards, introduce new technologies and help shape the future direction of the engineering function. Key Responsibilities
Lead and oversee the design, planning and execution of projects across a range of sizes and technical complexities.
Provide technical leadership and engineering governance across projects, supporting effective problem-solving throughout design and manufacturing.
Lead, mentor and develop the existing design engineering team, helping to build capability and succession within the function.
Drive continuous improvement across engineering, with a focus on improving quality, efficiency and engineering costs.
Develop and implement appropriate engineering KPIs and use data to identify opportunities for improvement.
Identify and introduce innovative products, technologies and engineering solutions that enhance the customer offering.
Work collaboratively with manufacturing, estimating and other internal teams to ensure effective project delivery.
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, understanding their technical requirements and ensuring solutions meet both customer and business needs.
Support the development and implementation of engineering processes, standards and best practice.
Act as a technical point of reference for the wider business, providing a positive, analytical and practical approach to engineering challenges.
What we're looking for We're looking for an experienced engineer with strong technical knowledge of electrical components and systems, ideally gained within a control panel, control systems or electrical manufacturing environment.
Strong technical knowledge of electrical components and systems.
Significant experience using CAD software and associated engineering support systems.
Experience of leading engineering change and continuous improvement within a quality-focused environment.
Proven experience of leading, mentoring and developing engineering teams.
The ability to influence and collaborate effectively across engineering, manufacturing and commercial functions.
Strong communication skills, with the confidence to engage with colleagues, customers and stakeholders at all levels.
A practical, analytical and "can-do" approach to problem-solving.
The ambition to contribute to the continued growth and development of an engineering-led business.
