Payroll Manager Bootle, Merseyside Salary: Up to £35,000 per annum
A well-established Civil Engineering business based in Bootle is seeking an experienced and organised Payroll Manager to join its growing finance team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional looking to take ownership of the payroll function while also having the opportunity to support the wider accounts department and develop their skillset within a dynamic and supportive business.
The Role
As Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for managing the company's weekly and monthly payroll processes, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time. You will work closely with the finance team and operational departments to maintain payroll accuracy and compliance.
Alongside payroll responsibilities, there will be opportunities to become involved in wider accounts and finance duties, making this an ideal role for someone who enjoys variety and wants to contribute to the broader success of the finance function.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and process weekly and monthly payrolls from start to finish
Ensure payroll is processed accurately and in line with HMRC regulations
Maintain employee payroll records and handle payroll-related queries
Process starters, leavers, salary changes, pensions, and statutory payments
Prepare payroll reports and reconciliations
Liaise with external bodies including HMRC and pension providers
Support the wider finance team with accounts administration and related duties
Assist with continuous improvements to payroll and finance processes
About You
Previous experience managing payroll end-to-end
Strong understanding of payroll legislation and compliance requirements
Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
Confident using payroll software and Microsoft Excel
Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines
Strong communication skills and a proactive approach
Desirable (but not essential)
Experience working within the Civil Engineering, Construction, or related sectors
Previous involvement in implementing or transitioning a payroll system from paper-based processes to a digital platform
Experience supporting wider accounts or finance functions
