Mechanical Design Engineer
Skills & Technologies
Job Description
The Opportunity
Innova Search is partnering with a global leader in industrial processing machinery to find a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join their established engineering team. This is a role for a designer who enjoys the full product lifecycle, from initial concept and complex 3D modeling to supporting the shop floor during assembly and conducting Root Cause Analysis.
You will be working on large-scale capital equipment, ensuring that every assembly is optimised for performance, cost-effectiveness, and ease of manufacture.
Core Responsibilities
As a key member of the Engineering Department, your mission is to design and develop new machines and components that drive the industry forward.
Design & Modeling: Create high-level 3D models and detailed 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks & PDM.
Technical Precision: Apply GD&T and DFMA principles to ensure "right-first-time" designs that reduce wastage and production costs.
End-to-End Documentation: Manage Bills of Materials (BOM) within SAP, produce purchase specifications for ancillary equipment (gearboxes, TCUs), and handle Design Change Requests (DCR/ECN).
Problem Solving: Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for customer incidents and perform post-project reviews to implement "lessons learned."
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as a technical bridge between Sales, Purchasing, and Production, including attending customer kick-off meetings and providing shop-floor assembly support.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a proactive engineer who can work independently but thrives in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.
Experience: 3–5 years of progressive experience in a mechanical design role, ideally within capital equipment or heavy machinery.
Education: A Degree, HND, or ONC/HNC in Mechanical Engineering.
Technical Mastery: Advanced proficiency in CAD software (Solidworks used, however upskilling available, if required) and a strong grasp of mechanical engineering principles.
Commercial Acumen: An understanding of value engineering and the ability to design with lead times and production costs in mind.
Why Apply?
This isn't just a "behind-the-desk" CAD role. You will have a tangible impact on the product, visiting customers, supporting the manufacturing facility, and contributing to the continuous improvement of a world-class product range.
