Role Purpose
The Parcel Carrier Manager is responsible for developing, managing, and optimizing relationships with parcel carriers and delivery partners to ensure market-leading service, cost efficiency, and commercial performance. The role leads carrier procurement, contract management, performance governance, and strategic development initiatives to support growth across parcel, returns, locker, and final-mile services.
Working cross-functionally with Commercial, Operations, Finance, Technology, Customer Experience, and external carrier partners, the role will drive service excellence while identifying opportunities to grow revenue, reduce cost, and enhance customer proposition.
Key Responsibilities
Carrier Relationship Management
Act as the primary commercial contact for parcel carriers and logistics partners.
Build and maintain strong strategic relationships with carrier partners.
Conduct regular business reviews to monitor performance, service quality, and future opportunities.
Manage escalations and coordinate resolution of operational issues.
Commercial & Contract Management
Lead commercial negotiations with carriers and partners.
Manage carrier contracts, amendments, renewals, and service agreements.
Deliver cost-effective solutions while maintaining service standards.
Support procurement activities and contribute to long-term sourcing strategies.
Performance Management
Develop and monitor carrier KPIs including: On-time delivery First-time delivery success Claims and loss metrics Customer satisfaction Cost per parcel Returns performance
Produce regular performance reporting and recommendations.
Drive continuous improvement plans with underperforming partners.
Network & Proposition Development
Identify opportunities to expand parcel volumes and services.
Support development of new solutions including: Parcel lockers Click & Collect Returns services B2B parcel propositions Final-mile partnerships
Evaluate emerging carrier capabilities, technologies, and market trends.
Operational Collaboration
Work closely with operational teams to ensure carrier solutions are scalable and deliverable.
Support implementation of new services and partner onboarding.
Ensure operational readiness during peak trading periods.
Financial Management
Manage carrier-related budgets and expenditure.
Monitor commercial performance against targets.
Identify and deliver cost-saving initiatives.
Support business cases and investment proposals.
Governance & Compliance
Ensure carriers operate in line with contractual, legal, and regulatory requirements.
Maintain appropriate governance processes and performance reviews.
Support sustainability and environmental objectives through carrier selection and network design.

Essential
Significant experience within parcel, logistics, carrier management, or transportation sectors.
Proven track record of commercial negotiation and contract management.
Experience managing third-party service providers.
Strong analytical and financial acumen.
Ability to influence senior stakeholders internally and externally.
Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
Desirable
Experience within retail, e-commerce, or final-mile logistics.
Understanding of parcel carrier pricing models.
Knowledge of locker, returns, and collection networks.
Experience supporting business growth and new service launches.
