Our People Ops & Payroll team

This is a true hybrid role, part People Operations, part Payroll, and one of the few positions at SumUp where someone gets to build expertise across both. Sitting within our Northern Europe People Ops & Payroll team, this role supports German employees through every step of their journey while also helping deliver the monthly German payroll alongside our Senior Payroll Partner. It's a rare chance to learn two disciplines at once, build a genuinely broad skill set, and grow into a trusted specialist who understands both the people side and the numbers side of HR.

What you'll do

Handle People Operations tasks across the employee lifecycle, including hires, changes and leavers

Prepare and maintain accurate employee documentation and records in Workday

Answer everyday People Ops and payroll questions from Germany-based employees

Prepare and check payroll inputs ahead of monthly deadlines, working closely with the Senior Payroll Partner

Support payroll reconciliations and recurring administrative tasks

Help spot ways to simplify People Ops and payroll processes as familiarity grows

You'll be great for this role if…

Experience supporting people operations or payroll processes, or something similar

Basic understanding of German employment law and payroll principles, with genuine interest in developing deeper expertise

Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookup formulas

Fluency in German and English

Comfort managing confidential information with care and handling several systems at once
