An exciting opportunity has arisen for an IT Security & Operations Administrator to join a leading higher education institution on an interim basis. This role will support the day-to-day delivery of IT services across the organisation, ensuring systems, infrastructure and user services remain secure, efficient and operational.
The successful candidate will act as the on-site point of contact for IT support, working closely with internal stakeholders and external service providers to resolve technical issues, maintain system performance and contribute to the continuous improvement of IT operations. Key Responsibilities:
Act as the primary on-site administrator for IT support and operational services across the organisation
Provide first-line and second-line technical support to staff and users across the business
Manage user accounts, permissions and access controls within Active Directory, Azure AD and other systems
Investigate, troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software and network issues in a timely manner
Monitor IT systems and proactively identify potential issues to minimise service disruptions
Support the administration and maintenance of Windows, Linux and macOS operating systems
Maintain and troubleshoot IT hardware including desktops, laptops, printers and peripheral devices
Assist with the administration of network infrastructure including switches, routers, VPNs and wireless networks
Implement and monitor cybersecurity controls including antivirus solutions, firewalls and access management processes
Coordinate system updates, patching activities and routine maintenance schedules
Support backup and disaster recovery processes, ensuring data integrity and business continuity requirements are met
Maintain accurate records of incidents, requests, assets and resolutions through IT service management tools
Develop and maintain technical documentation, user guides and operational procedures
Deliver IT guidance, training and support to users across the organisation
Support IT projects including upgrades, migrations, deployments and service improvement initiatives
Liaise with external IT support providers, vendors and third-party suppliers to ensure effective service delivery
Work closely with internal stakeholders to understand business requirements and improve IT services and user experience
Monitor system performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement across IT operations and security processes
Ensure all activities are delivered in line with organisational policies, procedures and IT security standards
Previous experience working in an IT Support Administrator, IT Support Analyst, Service Desk Analyst, IT Operations Administrator or similar role
Experience supporting Windows, macOS and Linux environments
Strong knowledge of Active Directory, Azure AD and user account administration
Experience working with IT service management tools and ticketing systems
Understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS and VPN technologies
Knowledge of IT security principles including access controls, data protection and threat mitigation
Experience troubleshooting hardware, software and network issues across a range of devices
Experience supporting Microsoft 365 and cloud-based services would be advantageous
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues effectively
Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users
Experience maintaining technical documentation and user guides
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and manage competing demands
High attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate records and compliance standards
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal and external stakeholders
Experience within Higher Education, Public Sector or Not-for-Profit environments would be advantageous
A proactive approach to continuous improvement, service delivery and IT operations development
Location: NW London (Fully Onsite)
Working Pattern: Full-time
Length: 2 months, subject to further extension
Rate: £19-£20 per hour inclusive of holiday pay
