Job Description
We are supporting a Multi-Academy Trust based in Birmingham to recruit an Interim Finance Manager. This is a fully remote opportunity offering £200-£250 per day (umbrella/inside IR35). The role is initially for 3-6 months.
This Multi-Academy Trust is responsible for running a network of primary and secondary schools across the UK. With a strong focus on improving outcomes for young people, it supports schools through shared services, robust governance, and a commitment to high standards in teaching, learning, and operational delivery.
Operating at scale, the trust promotes collaboration, financial efficiency, and consistent processes across its academies. It places emphasis on accountability, continuous improvement, and ensuring that resources are managed effectively to deliver the best possible educational experience for pupils.
Interim Finance Manager
Maintain asset and contracts registers, ensuring compliance and timely renewals.
Lead procurement activity and oversee supplier setup and value for money.
Manage purchase/sales ledgers, BACS payment runs, income collection, and remittances.
Oversee bank reconciliations, credit cards, cash handling, and cashless systems.
Support audits and ensure adherence to financial procedures and controls.
Process journals, monitor income streams, and oversee staff expenses (including VAT).
Reconcile supplier statements and manage creditor/debtor reporting.
Deliver month-end processes, reporting, and finance system management.
Produce departmental reports and monitor outstanding commitments.
Oversee catering reconciliations, lettings income tracking, and payment platform reporting.
Interim Finance Manager
Proven experience in a Finance Manager, Accountant (or similar) role within a Multi-Academy Trust.
Strong understanding of financial controls, procedures, and compliance requirements.
Experience managing ledgers, reconciliations, and month-end processes.
Knowledge of procurement processes and contract management.
Experience supporting internal and external audits.
Strong excel and finance systems experience.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
It is essential you have used IRIS (PS) Financials and IMP budgeting systems.
Experience with cashless payment systems and catering reconciliations.
Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
Proactive and solutions-focused.
Strong communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
£200-£250 per day.
