Interaction Designer

About The Role FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking an Interaction Designer to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 3 month contract with the potential to extend and will be a remote role with occasional travel to London or Manchester.

We are seeking an Interaction Designer to join a government digital programme, delivering user-centred services in line with Government Digital Service (GDS) standards and service design principles.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing simple, accessible and effective user journeys for public-facing and internal government services. They will work as part of a multidisciplinary agile team, collaborating closely with User Researchers, Service Designers, Business Analysts, Content Designers, Product Managers and Developers.

Responsibilities

Design intuitive and accessible user interactions for government digital services

Create user flows, wireframes, prototypes and interaction patterns

Collaborate with User Researchers to understand user needs and translate findings into design solutions

Work within multidisciplinary agile teams to iteratively develop and improve services

Ensure designs adhere to GDS Design System, Government Service Standard and accessibility requirements

Facilitate workshops and design discussions with stakeholders

Support service assessments and provide evidence against GDS standards

Use data, research and user feedback to inform design decisions

Contribute to design patterns, best practices and continuous improvement initiatives

About You

Active SC Clearance (must be current and transferable)

Minimum 12 months' recent experience working within a UK Government department, agency or public sector body

Proven experience delivering digital services aligned to GDS Service Standard

Strong understanding of user-centred design methodologies

Experience designing end-to-end user journeys and service interactions

Experience working within Agile Scrum/Kanban delivery teams

Strong stakeholder management and facilitation skills

Demonstrable experience creating accessible services compliant with WCAG 2.1 AA

Experience using design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Axure or Sketch

Ability to communicate design decisions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
