Job Role of the Instrumentation & Controls Engineer
A fantastic opportunity has become available for an experienced Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to join a well-established manufacturing facility in Yeadon, Leeds.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to develop their career within a busy manufacturing environment, working on a range of instrumentation, control systems and measurement equipment.
You will be responsible for the maintenance, calibration, fault-finding and optimisation of instrumentation and control systems, helping to ensure the reliability, accuracy and efficiency of the manufacturing process.
The role will involve a mixture of planned maintenance, calibration, reactive fault-finding and continuous improvement, with the opportunity to contribute to wider Lean Manufacturing, TPM and operational excellence initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out calibration, maintenance, inspection and repair of instrumentation and control systems.
Complete planned preventative maintenance and scheduled calibration activities.
Carry out reactive maintenance and fault-finding to minimise production downtime.
Investigate recurring instrumentation and equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
Maintain accurate calibration records, certificates and documentation.
Assist with control system software modifications, configuration changes and commissioning.
Interpret electrical schematics, technical drawings and instrumentation documentation.
Maintain instrumentation manuals, drawings, configuration files, programme backups and certification.
Identify opportunities to improve instrumentation reliability and process performance.
Support Lean Manufacturing, TPM, 6S and continuous improvement initiatives.
Ensure all maintenance and calibration activities are completed safely and in accordance with site procedures.
Non-Negotiable Requirements
Experience working within Instrumentation, Controls, Electrical or Automation Engineering.
Experience carrying out calibration and maintenance of instrumentation and measurement systems.
Strong electrical and instrumentation fault-finding experience.
Experience working within a manufacturing environment.
Recognised engineering apprenticeship or technical qualification.
Equivalent qualification in Instrumentation, Controls, Electrical, Automation Engineering or a related discipline.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
Desirable Requirements
Previous experience within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Experience working with PLCs, control systems or process instrumentation.
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, TPM or 6S.
Experience supporting internal or external audits.
Experience with calibration management systems.
Strong understanding of continuous improvement and equipment reliability.
Salary up to £40,000.
Monday - Friday, days-based role.
38-hour working week.
