We're working with a successful, growing business looking for an experienced Head of Finance to take ownership of the finance function and become a key member of the senior leadership team.

Reporting directly to the Directors, you'll lead and develop the finance team whilst taking responsibility for the quality, accuracy and insight coming from finance.

You'll have a strong technical grounding in financial control, reporting and management information, but this role is about much more than producing the numbers. You'll understand the wider business, build strong relationships with the Directors and operational teams, challenge performance and provide the financial insight and commercial advice needed to support better decisions.

You'll have genuine board-level exposure, contributing to discussions around strategy, growth and future plans, whilst playing an important role in budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling and evaluating future opportunities. What You'll Get Involved In

Take overall ownership of the finance function and act as a key business partner and adviser to the Directors.

Lead, manage and develop the finance team, creating a high-performing and supportive function.

Maintain strong financial control, ensuring accurate, timely and robust reporting.

Own month-end, management accounts and wider financial reporting.

Produce high-quality Board packs with meaningful analysis, commentary and insight, helping the Directors understand what is happening and what needs to happen next.

Business partner with Directors, operational teams and the wider leadership team to understand performance, identify issues and turn financial insight into commercial decisions.

Provide constructive challenge and recommendations rather than simply reporting what has happened.

Lead budgeting, forecasting and financial planning, alongside financial modelling for decision-making, investment and growth.

Work closely with the Directors on growth opportunities, strategy and future plans, providing financial advice and challenge.

Support the evaluation of potential acquisitions, including financial modelling, due diligence and integration where required.

Identify opportunities around profitability, margins, cash generation, working capital and business performance.

Partner with operational and commercial teams to understand performance drivers and identify opportunities for improvement.

Consolidate multiple entities and provide robust group-level reporting.

Review and improve finance systems, processes and reporting as the business scales.

Explore how AI, automation and technology can improve the efficiency and capability of finance.

Get involved in wider strategic and commercial projects as the business grows.

What We're Looking For You'll be a qualified accountant with strong technical grounding in financial control and reporting, combined with the commercial awareness, presence and communication skills to operate as a genuine business partner to the Directors and wider business.

We're looking for someone comfortable looking backwards at performance and forwards at opportunity. You'll understand that finance isn't simply about explaining what has happened, but helping the business decide what to do next.

You'll ideally have experience within an SME environment with turnover of £50m-£100m+, and be comfortable operating in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial business.

Strong financial control and financial reporting experience.

Experience producing Board-level reporting, analysis and commentary.

Proven experience managing, developing and motivating a finance team.

Strong budgeting, forecasting, planning and financial modelling experience.

A proven track record of business partnering with senior stakeholders and operational teams.

The commercial mindset to turn financial information into recommendations and actions.

Experience working closely with Directors, owners or senior leadership teams.

The confidence to challenge constructively, ask the right questions and offer solutions.

Experience of acquisitions, trade buyouts or other corporate transactions would be advantageous.

Exposure to private equity, investors or other externally backed businesses would be beneficial

Experience consolidating multiple entities.

A hands-on approach and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced SME environment.

A genuine interest in systems, processes, automation and AI.

Experience in manufacturing, distribution, logistics, retail or a similar operational environment.
