Group Financial Accountant

My client, a leading global engineering business, are looking for a technically strong, commercially savvy Group Financial Accountant to join their head office finance team in Warrington.

This senior role offers broad exposure to complex technical accounting, external auditors, and senior finance stakeholders, providing genuine scope to help build a reporting model that scales with the business.

What you'll do

Take ownership of the balance sheet for an allocated portfolio of UK legal entities, including pensions, provisions, impairment, investments, joint ventures, intercompany and financing, ensuring clear monthly review and sign-off before Group submission.

Deliver high-quality statutory accounts and audit support for those entities by identifying and resolving technical issues early in the process.

Lead defined workstreams within consolidations for UK, managing intercompany positions, consolidation journals and analytical reviews with precision.

Act as deputy to the Group Reporting Manager across statutory reporting, Group reporting, audit and technical accounting workstreams, providing specialist oversight.

Drive external reporting for the integration of newly acquired or changing businesses by establishing reporting ownership, processes, controls and timetables.

Partner with Management Accounts teams so that operating performance remains owned close to the business while technical and statutory positions receive specialist oversight.

Improve the quality, consistency and efficiency of reporting through standardisation, automation and better use of data and systems.

Own and review technical balance sheets and non-operating items for allocated entities during monthly legal-entity review and certification processes.

Prepare technical accounting papers and contribute to key half-year and year-end judgements, disclosures and analytical reviews.

Support ad hoc technical, reporting and finance transformation projects alongside the External Reporting Manager and Head of Finance.

What you bring

Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent) with proven experience in statutory accounts and external reporting gained either in practice audit or within a multi-entity group environment.

Up-to-date knowledge of IFRS as well as UK reporting frameworks including FRS 101 and FRS 102 demonstrated through practical application.

Ability to analyse complex transactions, journals and balance-sheet movements with sound judgement resulting in well-supported conclusions.

Advanced Excel skills combined with strong analytical abilities enabling confident work across large or complex data sets turning findings into actionable insights.

Clear written and verbal communication skills allowing you to explain technical matters effectively to non-specialist stakeholders.

Personal ownership demonstrated by working independently while prioritising effectively across competing reporting deadlines.

Group reporting or consolidation experience in a multi-entity environment ideally including multi-currency reporting.

Understanding general ledger/sub-ledger transactions along with period-end close procedures plus balance-sheet reconciliations supporting robust financial controls.

Experience supporting integration/acquisition or reporting-change activity within fast-growing organisations.

Familiarity using ERP/consolidation/reporting systems plus experience leading cross-functional workstreams or coaching colleagues.
