SALARY: £39,000 to £42,000 per annum (depending on experience) + Benefits

LOCATION: Oldham, Greater Manchester, North West England

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 42.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 07:30–17:00. Flexibility is required for out-of-hours and weekend work, with compensation

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing estates team as a Gas Engineer / Plumber supporting a varied portfolio of healthcare, education and other properties.

The Gas Engineer / Plumber will take ownership of planned and reactive gas, plumbing and heating maintenance, fault finding, installations, commissioning and water-system tasks while working to service standards and safety requirements.

Working alongside engineering colleagues and other trades, the Gas Engineer / Plumber will help maintain high standards across the estate, keep accurate records and support collaborative projects.

DUTIES

Your duties as the Gas Engineer / Plumber include

Gas Servicing and Maintenance: Service, maintain and commission domestic and commercial gas installations

Plumbing Installation and Repairs: Carry out plumbing installation, maintenance and reactive repairs across domestic and commercial properties

Planned and Reactive Maintenance: Complete PPM, troubleshooting and reactive work on domestic water and heating systems in line with service requirements

Mechanical First and Second Fix: Install radiators, baths, shower trays, WCs, wash hand basins and associated pipework

Water Treatment and Testing: Carry out or oversee L8 sampling, TMV fail-safe testing and related water treatment activities

Plant and Equipment Installation: Assist with installing and modifying boilers, cold water storage tanks, unvented hot water cylinders and booster sets

Parts, Stock and Records: Order parts and supplies, liaise with suppliers, maintain van stock and complete required paperwork and engineering-system updates

Team and Site Support: Work collaboratively with the engineering team and other trades, undertake capable general labouring tasks and respond to emergency situations

Standards and Communication: Maintain professional work standards, communicate effectively and work with minimal supervision using sound organisation and time management

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

F-Gas qualification with appropriate practical experience

Current domestic gas qualifications

NVQ Level 2 6089 Mechanical Engineering Services – City & Guilds trade qualification (or equivalent recognised competency in the required trade)

Previous domestic and commercial plumbing maintenance experience

Previous commercial gas experience

Valid UK driving licence

Relevant experience and/or qualifications in working at height and health and safety, with the ability to work routinely in line with health and safety requirements

Competence completing PPM paperwork, inspection sheets, RAMS and related records

Good working knowledge of construction installations and building maintenance

Able to use a mobile phone for email communication and engineering software tasks

DESIRABLE

NVQ Level 3 6189-33 Diploma in Plumbing & Heating
