Financial Accountant

Financial Accountant | 6-month day rate | £325 to £350 per day

Altum Consulting are partnering with a large retail business to recruit an experienced Financial Accountant for an initial 6-month contract. This role will suit a technically strong Big 4 trained qualified accountant to support across financial reporting, audit readiness, and technical accounting requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and review monthly financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards

Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journals, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations, and variance analysis

Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and investigate any discrepancies or unusual movements

Support the preparation of statutory accounts and audit deliverables

Act as a key point of contact for external auditors, providing supporting documentation and resolving queries

Ensure financial controls are maintained and processes are followed consistently

Review accounting treatment across key areas and provide technical accounting guidance where required

Support tax, VAT, and other regulatory reporting requirements

Work closely with AP, AR, and wider finance teams to ensure accurate financial information

Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and analysis where required

Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting, and controls

Support ad hoc finance projects as required

Candidate Profile

ACA qualified, or equivalent, ideally trained within a Big 4 firm

2+ years' PQE

Strong technical accounting knowledge

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Strong Excel skills with high attention to detail

Experience in financial reporting, audit support, and balance sheet review

Comfortable working with senior stakeholders and international finance teams
