Finance Manager

Finance Manager | £45,000 | Liverpool | Permanent

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys being close to the detail and wants genuine ownership of a finance function. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you'll take responsibility for the day-to-day finances of the business while providing useful commercial insight to support decision-making.

You'll manage one member of the accounts team, but this is very much a hands-on Finance Manager role. You'll be equally comfortable producing the management accounts as you are getting involved in payroll, VAT, cash flow or resolving an issue within the ledgers.

As Finance Manager, you will be

Producing monthly management accounts, including P&L and balance sheet reporting

Providing financial analysis and commentary to the MD and senior management

Managing budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow reporting

Overseeing AP, AR and credit control, with one direct report

Managing month-end, including accruals, prepayments and reconciliations

Completing VAT and CIS returns

Managing monthly payroll and workplace pension administration

Maintaining the fixed asset register

Supporting external accountants and the annual audit/year-end process

Monitoring costs, margins and wider business performance

Maintaining and improving financial controls and processes

Working closely with operational teams to improve the quality of financial information

Maintaining Excel-based costing, pricing and reporting tools

For the Management Accountant role, we are looking for someone who has

Several years' experience within an SME environment where you've had broad responsibility across finance rather than operating within one narrow area.

You'll need strong experience of management accounts, month-end, VAT, payroll, cash flow and balance sheet reconciliations, alongside the confidence to take ownership of the finance function.

Strong Excel skills are important, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, SUMIFS and IF functions, alongside experience using Sage 50 Accounts and Payroll.

You may be ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified, part-qualified, AAT qualified or qualified by experience – the breadth of your experience and ability to operate independently are more important than a particular qualification.
