greenwellgleeson are recruiting for a Financial Controller to join a successful SME business based in Tamworth.
This is a hands-on role with responsibility for the day-to-day finance function, providing accurate financial reporting and commercial insight to the senior leadership team. The successful candidate will manage a small finance team while helping to strengthen processes, controls and reporting as the business continues to develop.
Key Responsibilities
Take ownership of the monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and variance analysis.
Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
Lead budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management, highlighting risks and opportunities.
Oversee the day-to-day finance function, including purchase ledger, sales ledger, credit control and payroll.
Manage and develop a small finance team, providing support and ensuring deadlines are achieved.
Maintain robust balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls.
Produce meaningful management information and KPIs for the Directors and senior management team.
Partner with operational teams to provide analysis around margins, costs, profitability and business performance.
Manage working capital and support improvements across cash collection, stock and supplier management where applicable.
Coordinate the year-end audit and liaise with external accountants, auditors and other professional advisers.
Ensure compliance with VAT, tax and statutory reporting requirements.
Identify opportunities to improve finance systems, reporting and internal processes.
Support the Directors with ad hoc commercial analysis and strategic projects.
About You
Qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA).
Previous experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or similar role within an SME environment.
Strong management accounting and financial control experience.
Commercially minded with the ability to turn financial information into useful business insight.
Comfortable operating in a hands-on role while managing and developing a small team.
Strong Excel and finance systems experience.
Confident communicator capable of working closely with Directors and non-finance stakeholders.
Proactive approach with a track record of improving processes, controls and reporting.
