About us Solid Floor is a specialist importer of hardwood flooring based in London, supplying and installing floors for clients introduced to us by architects, interior designers, developers and main contractors. We run two showrooms, turn over around £2 million a year, and are a close-knit team of five full-time staff plus this role. About the role This role is based at our Spitalfields, E1 showroom, with remote working also available. Our long-standing part-time Finance Manager is retiring at the end of October after many years with us, and we're looking for their successor to join us for 2.5 days/week. This is a sole-charge role covering everything from bookkeeping to management reporting — and we're specifically looking for someone who wants to bring modern, AI-assisted ways of working to a function that has, until now, been run very traditionally. Key responsibilities
Maintaining accurate books in Xero, including AP/AR and bank reconciliation
Processing weekly supplier payments and weekly CIS payments to our subcontractor team
Running monthly payroll via SAGE and keeping Sage HR up to date
Preparing weekly cash flow forecasts and managing FX/Euro payment exposure
Producing monthly/quarterly sales reports and management accounts
Managing VAT and PAYE, and acting as our main point of contact for auditors, including year-end
Overseeing insurance renewals, H&S administration and utility contracts
Actively finding and implementing ways to automate and streamline financial processes
What you'll need
Proven bookkeeping/finance experience, including payroll, AP/AR and management accounts
Strong, hands-on experience with Xero
Willingness (ideally experience) to manage the Construction Industry Scheme
A genuine track record of using AI tools/automation in your finance work — this matters as much as technical bookkeeping skill
Confidence liaising directly with company Directors, auditors and external suppliers/contractors
Comfortable being the sole owner of the finance function, with no internal back-up
Right to work in the UK required
Qualifications are not essential — we're more interested in what you can demonstrably do and how you approach modernising a finance function. AAT or part-qualified ACCA/CIMA welcomed but not required.
