Our Legal team
SumUp Spain has grown significantly over the past year and is expected to continue growing through 2026. To support this development, we are expanding our European Employment Law team with a dedicated Employment Counsel based in Barcelona.
As part of the EU Legal Team’s Employment Law function you will take primary responsibility for day-to-day Spanish employment law matters. You will work closely with the People Team, business leaders and our Barcelona Works Council, while collaborating with employment law colleagues across Europe.
This is an opportunity to shape SumUp’s employment law support in Spain combining local ownership with close collaboration across the wider team.

What you'll do
Provide practical, day-to-day legal advice on Spanish employment law across the employee lifecycle
Draft and review employment contracts, policies and other employment documentation
Support Works Council consultations and collective employment matters
Advise on disciplinary matters, terminations, mutual separation agreements and organisational change
Manage external counsel for specialist support or litigation when needed
Partner with the wider EU Legal Team to keep employment law practices consistent across Europe
You'll be great for this role if…
Qualified lawyer in Spain with 3–6 years of experience, with a strong focus on Spanish employment law, gained in private practice and/or an in-house legal team
Experience advising HR and business stakeholders on practical, commercial matters
Track record drafting employment contracts and managing employment disputes
Comfort supporting Works Council relations and collective consultation processes
Fluency in Spanish and English
