The Opportunity This is an exceptional chance to join a prestigious, award-winning British manufacturer with deep roots in engineering innovation. Working at the intersection of product design, testing, toolmaking, and heavy engineering, you'll be leading full-lifecycle R&D projects that genuinely shape the future of our product lines. You'll be joining a highly collaborative, no-blame culture where your creative ideas are actually backed, developed, and brought to market. Key Responsibilities
End-to-End R&D: Design, develop, and refine new and existing products from concept, prototyping, and FMEA through to full production tooling.
Hands-on Prototype Testing: Build, evaluate, and test prototypes to maximize product performance, safety, aesthetic finish, and cost-efficiency.
Cross-Functional Leadership: Work closely with plastics toolrooms, foundry engineering, pattern shops, and quality teams to ensure seamless manufacturing.
Technical Mentorship: Provide drawings, guidance, and technical instruction to junior engineers and draftspersons across the business.
Design Optimization: Conduct competitor analysis and ensure all designs comply with ISO quality standards and low-inventory manufacturing strategies.
What We're Looking For
Proven background in Design Engineering within a manufacturing environment (plastics moulding, tooling, or casting experience is a huge plus).
Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software and executing FMEA / feasibility studies.
A collaborative mindset with strong communication skills and an interest in mentoring others.
A proactive problem-solver who thrives on seeing their designs physically built on the shop floor.
