About The Role FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Data Engineer to work for our client within the Finance & Pensions sector. This is initially a 6month contract with the potential to extend and will be a Hybrid role that will be based in Birmingham.
Design, develop and maintain data pipelines and data integration processes.
Analyse, transform and manage complex datasets from multiple sources.
Support the development and optimisation of data platforms, data warehouses and data lakes.
Work closely with business stakeholders to gather, interpret and translate requirements into effective data solutions.
Promote data quality, governance and best practice standards.
Contribute across the full project lifecycle, including discovery, analysis, design, build, testing and implementation.
Collaborate with internal teams and third-party suppliers to deliver technology solutions.
Support problem-solving and troubleshooting activities across data and reporting environments.
Contribute to agile delivery practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
About You
Significant commercial experience working as a Data Engineer within complex enterprise environments.
Experience within Financial Services, Pensions, Investment Management or other highly regulated industries.
Experience working with large-scale data platforms, data warehouses and/or data lakes.
Strong understanding of data engineering principles, data integration and data management practices.
Experience working with policyholder, investment, fund or other financial datasets.
Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to elicit and document business and technical requirements.
Experience working within agile delivery teams.
Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.
Experience collaborating with third-party vendors and technology partners.
Knowledge of modern data and analytics technologies.
Experience with reporting and visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik or similar.
Experience using Python, SQL or other analytics and data engineering technologies.
Understanding of data governance and architecture principles.
Familiarity with CI/CD, DevOps and modern engineering practices.
Experience using Jira, Confluence or similar delivery tools.
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Technology or a related subject.
Relevant professional certifications or professional body membership.

Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Comfortable working across cross-functional teams.
Adaptable and resilient in changing environments.
Collaborative approach with a continuous improvement mindset.
