A fair question to ask here is… if you are an Account Handler in the Leeds market, then why would you want to work anywhere else but here?
This is one of the most well-known players in the broking industry, and a household name. The Leeds branch looks after some of the most coveted corporate insurance accounts in the North of England. The career development opportunities here are truly unrivalled. In fact, the 2 hiring managers that we took the role briefing from had both joined the company in a similar role as this, and gone onto have extremely interesting career paths within this organisation.
Upon joining this broker, you’ll be given 5-10 clients to manage, in conjunction with Account Executives and Directors. These will be substantial corporate risks, with individual fee incomes typically in excess of £75K. Accompanying your colleagues, you’ll be encouraged to join them on pre-renewal meetings and surveys, and so this is chance to really get to know a small number of clients at a granular level.
Refreshingly, whilst corporate experience would of course be welcome, it is by no means essential that you have previously dealt with clients of this size. We are more focussed on personality and attitude here; someone who has a genuine thirst for learning, and who wants to acquire the skills to deal with corporate clients in a truly consultative manner. We will happily consider applications from Account Handlers operating in the SME/ mid-market arena, who are motivated to take things to the next level. And you certainly won’t be thrown in at the deep-end when it comes to getting up to speed. This company spends an eye-watering amount of money on the training and development of its employees, to ensure that they are the very best at what they do (internal trainers, external courses, CII support, you name it).
It’s essential that you have some kind of commercial broking experience spanning the main insurance covers (namely Property, Liability and Motor). Just as importantly, you’ll be well-organised, a problem-solver, and you’ll have strong communication skills (both written and verbal). You will also be naturally inquisitive; someone who genuinely enjoys finding out about your clients’ business activities and future plans.
You’ll be working from plush Leeds city centre offices, with one of the most experienced broking teams in the business. The company operates a 50/50 hybrid-working arrangement, although you are of course welcome in the office as much as you like. There is a great social scene here too – with regular evening outings, insurer events and charitable activities. You’ll enjoy working as part of a very stable, collaborative and friendly team, which is why employees remain loyal to this company for a long time.
In terms of career-development, the sky really is the limit in this organisation. “This is not a dead-end Account Handling role”, says the hiring manager. This position could lead to more of a technical role, management, operations, compliance, governance etc – the list is endless. Even the Branch Manager here joined in a role like this, which is testament to what can be achieved within this firm.
