Controls Engineer - Day Shift Lydney £45,000 - £55,000 + Benefits Day Shift | Permanent
A well-established manufacturing business in Lydney, Gloucestershire is seeking a Controls Engineer to join their engineering team on a day shift basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced automation or controls specialist who enjoys working across projects, upgrades, and continuous improvement within a modern industrial environment. The Role As a Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and support of PLC-controlled systems across the site. You'll work on projects from concept through to commissioning while also supporting fault-finding, upgrades, and safety improvements to keep production running efficiently and safely. Key Responsibilities
Specify, program, modify and test PLC systems (Siemens TIA Portal / Step7, Mitsubishi, Beckhoff).
Develop and maintain HMI/SCADA systems, data acquisition, alarms, diagnostics, and performance dashboards.
Design and implement functional safety architectures including safety PLCs, light curtains, scanners/radar, and machine interlocks.
Produce safety documentation including risk assessments, Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS), validation plans, and proof testing aligned with ISO 13849 / IEC 62061.
Troubleshoot complex faults across PLC, electrical systems, sensors, and communications networks.
Lead improvements to machine safety, throughput, and reliability including infeed systems, door interlocks, and safety zoning.
Requirements To be successful in this role you will ideally have:
Proven experience with PLC programming and commissioning.
Experience with Siemens TIA Portal / Step7 and Mitsubishi GX Developer (Beckhoff TwinCAT advantageous).
Strong knowledge of Ladder Logic and STL programming.
Experience designing and supporting HMI/SCADA systems.
HNC or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Controls, or Mechatronics (or relevant experience).
