Join One of the Sunday Times Best Places to Work
We are proud to be a Yorkshire business with big ambitions and an even bigger focus on our people.
Recognised as one of the Sunday Times Best Places to Work, we've built a culture where people feel supported, valued and given the opportunity to grow. We're friendly, down to earth and ambitious, with approachable managers and supportive colleagues who work closely together, celebrate success and make time for team events and social activities.
As we continue to grow, we're looking for someone to join our field sales team. We're open to appointing at one of two levels depending on your experience: Business Development Representative or at the more senior level of Business Development Manager.
Business Development Representative
This level could suit someone with a strong internal, telephone or B2B sales background who is ready to develop into a field-based business development role. You'll receive training, mentoring and practical support as you build your product knowledge, territory management skills and face-to-face sales experience.
Business Development Manager
This is the more experienced level and is aimed at an established B2B field sales or business development professional with a proven track record of delivering growth. You'll take greater commercial ownership, handle more complex negotiations and have the opportunity to support and develop others within the sales team.
Role Overview
You'll work across our broad product portfolio, including cylinder and bulk LPG, industrial and welding gases, beer and drinks dispense gases, solid fuels, oils and lubricants, welding equipment and consumables, helium and related gas equipment.
Working across Yorkshire, the North West and surrounding areas, you'll build relationships, develop new business and support existing customers, with the freedom to organise your territory, customer visits and pipeline.
Whichever level you join us at, you'll be focused on developing strong customer relationships and creating new business opportunities. The level of commercial responsibility and autonomy will increase at Business Development Manager level.
Duties
Manage and grow relationships across new and existing customer accounts.
Identify and develop new business opportunities across the territory.
Understand customer requirements and identify where we can offer a better solution.
Plan and carry out customer visits and territory activity.
Manage opportunities from initial conversation through to quotation, follow-up, negotiation and conversion.
Build and maintain a well-managed sales pipeline.
Work closely with operations to ensure customers receive a reliable, joined-up service.
Maintain accurate CRM records, forecasts and activity reporting.
Share feedback on customer needs, competitor activity, pricing and new opportunities.
Represent us professionally and build trusted, long-term customer relationships.
Take greater ownership of sales and margin performance.
Lead more complex commercial negotiations and customer agreements.
Use your established field sales experience to independently develop and maximise opportunities across the territory.
Support and coach colleagues within the sales team.
Contribute to the continued development of the sales function.
What We're Looking For
For the Business Development Representative level, you may have strong internal, telephone or B2B sales experience and be ready to take the next step into field-based business development. Previous field sales experience would be useful but isn't essential if you have the right sales ability, drive and willingness to learn.
For the Business Development Manager level, we're looking for proven B2B field sales or business development experience, a track record of delivering sales growth, confidence around pricing, margin and negotiation, and experience of supporting, coaching or managing others, or clear readiness to do so.
Strong customer communication and relationship-building skills.
A proactive approach and genuine interest in learning our products and markets.
Good organisation and the ability to manage your own diary, visits and follow-ups.
Commercial awareness and confidence discussing customer requirements and pricing.
Attention to detail and reliable follow-through.
The confidence to work independently while staying connected with the wider team.
A full UK driving licence.
Experience in gas, energy, fuels, equipment or a related commercial environment would be useful, but the right sales ability, attitude and willingness to learn matter most.
