Business Development Manager – Research & Business Intelligence
Location: Remote – UK
Commitment: Part-time (2–2.5 days/week, with potential to grow)
Salary: £30,000-£35,000 pa pro rata, plus uncapped commission
About Our Client
Our client is a specialist media and business intelligence company providing concise, high-quality briefings to leading organisations across business, finance and the public sector.
Their established European economics briefing helps senior clients quickly understand what is happening across Europe and what really matters, while bespoke services provide tailored media and business intelligence for organisations with more specific needs.
They are now looking for their first dedicated Business Development Manager to build on an existing client base and drive new business.
This is a hands-on role in a small, established business, working directly with the founder with considerable autonomy to identify opportunities and help shape the company’s commercial growth.
What you’ll do
Personally generate new business, from researching prospects and making the initial approach through to pitching and closing
Build and manage a strong pipeline of prospective clients
Win new subscription clients and identify opportunities for bespoke intelligence projects
Develop relationships with senior decision-makers, including communications, corporate affairs, strategy, economics and research teams
Help develop long-term client relationships and renewals
Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for an experienced and credible business development professional who is comfortable selling a nuanced, high-quality service to senior clients.
A strong track record of personally winning new B2B clients
Experience selling research, intelligence, data, media, advisory, communications or other professional services
Confidence engaging and influencing senior corporate decision-makers
The ability to start intelligent conversations with prospective clients rather than relying on high-volume or scripted sales approaches
A hands-on, self-directed approach to prospecting and pipeline management
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
A genuine interest in business, media, economics and current affairs
Experience selling to corporate affairs, communications, strategy, economics or research teams would be particularly valuable.
Relevant backgrounds
We’re open-minded about sector background, but are particularly interested in candidates with experience from:
Media monitoring, media intelligence or reputation intelligence
Research, market intelligence or information services
Financial or business information
Communications and PR services
Specialist B2B media and publishing
Economic or strategic consultancies
Policy and public affairs organisations
Other high-quality consultative or professional services
Package
Salary: £30,000–£35,000 pa pro rata, plus uncapped commission
Commission: 25% of first-year subscription revenue from new clients you bring in, plus additional commission on renewals and bespoke projects.
The initial aim is to secure a first new subscription client within four months and around 10 new clients in the first year.
This is a fully remote role open to candidates based in the United Kingdom.
You’ll have the flexibility to work from home, with regular contact with the founder and wider team.
For the right person, this is a chance to take real ownership of business development, working directly with the founder and helping grow an established specialist intelligence business.
