Associate Director – Insurer Relationships

The Associate Director of Insurer Relationships is a high-impact leadership role responsible for the strategic management of our insurer panel. You will act as the primary architect of our carrier relationships, transforming them into high-value partnerships that drive commercial growth, improve product offerings, and deliver superior outcomes for our clients.

We are a flexible, hybrid working employer. We do have offices based in Manchester, Peterborough and London where frequent travel to would be expected although the primary role will be out and about seeing clients and partners as and when required.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Relationship Management & Commercial Value

Insurer Strategy: Develop and execute a multi-year insurer engagement strategy to maximise commercial revenue.

Commercial Negotiation: Lead high-stakes negotiations to facility terms.

Customer-Centric Innovation: Collaborate with insurers to develop bespoke products and "white-label" solutions that address emerging customer needs and market gaps.

2. Leadership & People Development

Team Management: Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of relationship managers.

Talent Growth: Build a high-performance culture by identifying skills gaps and implementing robust personal development plans.

Resource Planning: Align team capacity with business priorities to ensure consistent delivery of commercial targets.

3. Data-Led Decision Making & Problem Solving

Analytical Oversight: Use data to monitor insurer performance, loss ratios, and placement trends.

Strategic Problem Solving: Identify roadblocks in the placement chain and implement creative solutions to improve ease-of-trade and conversion rates.

Market Intel: Stay ahead of market cycles (hard/soft markets) to proactively pivot the broker’s placement strategy.

4. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

Executive Influence: Act as a key advisor to the Retail Board, providing succinct updates on market trends and financial performance.

Expert Presentation: Create and deliver high-impact PowerPoint presentations that distil complex commercial data into clear, actionable narratives for senior internal and external audiences.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work seamlessly with Operations, Commercial Directors, Digital and Proposition, Legal, Change, Claims, and Compliance to ensure a unified approach to insurer management.

Key Skills & Experience

Proven track record of managing large-scale insurer relationships within a brokerage or MGA.

Deep understanding of the regulatory landscape with the ability to translate complex rules into practical business workflows.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to "read a room" and influence C-suite stakeholders.

Expert in PowerPoint, capable of creating succinct, visually professional decks that tell a compelling story.
