Key Responsibilities of Assistant Accountant

Support the month-end close process, including journals, accruals and prepayments

Prepare bank, intercompany and balance sheet reconciliations

Assist with the production of monthly management accounts

Review financial data to ensure accuracy across multiple business divisions

Prepare VAT returns and support statutory compliance

Analyse transport, fleet and operational costs to support business performance

Assist with budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis

Support the finance team with year-end audit requirements

Skills and Competencies

Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables and data analysis.

Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail.

Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.

Effective communication skills with confidence when dealing with colleagues, suppliers and customers.

A proactive approach with a willingness to learn and develop professionally.

Ability to work independently while contributing positively within a collaborative finance team.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
